Okerie winner subdues Kochin

PRESS TRUST OF INDIA
KOCHI, FEB 12: Formidable Mohun Bagan overcame stiff resistance to subdue FC Kochin by a solitary goal by star striker Chima Okerie in a crucial Philips National Football League match at the Jawaharlal Nehru international stadium here today.

The all important goal was scored by Okerie in the 59th minute through a free-kick which zoomed past a hapless Kochin goalkeeper V N Dinesh into the net much to the delight of the Bagan supporters.

Mohun Bagan had defeated Kochin by a solitary goal in their home match last month too.

With this win, fancied Bagan kept their lead in tact in the points table with 23 points from 10 matches closely followed by Air-India, the only unbeaten team in the current edition, with 21 points from 11 matches while Kochin has 17 points from as many matches.

The tussle between the two teams provided keen competition with the Bagan strikers showing enough speed and dash while their rivals matching them quite competently.

Kochin, which dominated the entire first session had toblame themselves for the defeat as they missed chances.
