PATNA: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), on Saturday, sought
sanction of the Bihar Governor to prosecute Chief Minister Laloo Prasad
Yadav in the Rs 950 crore fodder scam. The CBI's formal request for sanction
to prosecute Yadav was handed over to Governor A R Kidwai here by a team of
agency officials, including DIG R N Kaul and SP V S Kaumudi. The officials
called on Kidwai's principal secretary on Saturday evening.

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister I K Gujral held intense parleys with senior UF
leaders till late in the evening on how to tackle an unyielding Laloo Prasad
Yadav.
Tax formula
MUMBAI: Asking for more, the States today rejected the Tenth Finance
Commission's proposal for allocating 29 per cent out of the Central pool of
taxes to them. The proposal was turned down at a meeting of the standing
committee of the Inter-state Council.
Ex-MP found dead
GONDA: Former Congress MP Mahant Dep Narayan Bun (62) was found dead, with
bullets sprayed in his chest, at his civil lines residence here on Friday.
According to the police, Bun had probably committed suicide. He was elected
to UP assembly in 1969, 1974 and 1980 from Mujhena Assembly constituency in
the district. In 1984 he was also elected to the Lok Sabha.
TN clashes
CHENNAI: The DGP of Tamil Nadu, K K Rajasekharan Nair has rushed to a
village near Rajapalayam where clashes erupted on Friday night. Chief
Secretary K A Nambiar confirmed that one person died in the clashes and
that the police had fired buck shots to disperse the mob there in which two
persons were injured. Three more battalions each comprising 2000 policemen
have been despatched to the southern districts on Friday, he added.
PLA activists held
IMPHAL: At least three underground activists of the People's Liberation Army
were arrested by the police from Phayeng areas in Manipur's Imphal district
on Friday. The police also recovered one wireless set, some cassettes and
some documents from them.

MUMBAI: Santosh Mohan Deb has been appointed election officer for the
Congress party's organisational elections in Maharashtra. Congress
president, Sitaram Kesri announced this decision on Saturday, according to a
Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee release here.
