LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

Consolidated relationship
Ms Seema Chishti has suggested (‘The Next Big idea’, July 19) that the Congress should now shift into fourth gear. Having failed in agriculture, PM Manmohan Singh is taking a direct interest in this sector. The Big Idea of the UPA was the SEZ. Make it successful. One woman’s confidence and courage brought the UPA to power, and for the relationship of that with electoral success to endure, the government must not only deliver on its promise, but think afresh.
A Jacob Sahayam, Thiruvananthapuram

Loss of touch
Sonia Gandhi has clamped the country with an undeserving candidate as President, and the Congress will not
be able to live down the ignominy of depriving Dr Kalam of a second term. The President’s office was also buffaloed in 1969, when Indira Gandhi advocated a “vote by conscience” to manipulate the election of VV Giri. We’ve always loved Sonia Gandhi. When a bomb killed Rajiv, we wept and consoled her. When she entered politics, we buoyed her. Now, she has lost touch. Like Indira Gandhi, she has stopped listening to India’s people.
Rajendra K Aneja, Dubai

Thorns do prick
Thanks for publishing my KPO letter, but must it be shortened so much? Also, my name is JS Broca, not JS Brocha. This has happened for the second time. Shakepeare said, “What’s in a name?”, a rose et al. But thorns do prick.
JS Broca, Noida
