Infosys sees big opportunity in support, aintenance of enterprise systems

Kavitha Vivek in Bangalore

Tech major Infosys Technologies Ltd is looking at production support and maintenance of enterprise systems as a big business opportunity which could lead to a 50:50 onsite/offshore model for enterprise solutions implementation.

Currently, close to 30 per cent of the business of Infosys’ enterprise solutions division comes from implementation of enterprise systems.

Speaking to The Financial Express, Infosys associate vice-president and head (enterprise solutions) BG Srinivas said the growing trend now was to implement enterprise systems and enter into agreements to maintain and manage the system.

“This could be a big business opportunity to dip into. Infosys is keenly looking at two key opportunities for end-to-end implementation and maintenance—requirements that arise out of the roll-out of global MNCs and the SME segment which is set to be the next explosive segment,” Mr Srinivas said.

Upbeat on
e-enablement
Even as Infosys has scaled down its exposure to dotcoms, the company is still looking at e-enablement as a huge business opportunity. With an aim to tap this segment, Infosys has currently identified the enterprise portals business, which will involve building intranet systems for corporates and building collaborative portals for old economy sectors, as a thrust business. Towards this end, the company has currently charted out plans to focus on the niche segments like oil and gas, energy, healthcare and automotive that are small yet sustainable business opportunities.

Interestingly, the industry is currently seeing a revival on the enterprise systems front with traditional ERP making a comeback with extended systems like CRM and SCM. “Infosys is one of the few companies that has managed to notch up a high level of offshore work on the implementation front. Currently our onsite vs offshore percentage stands at 80:20, which is significant,” he added.

Infosys is also looking at expanding its strategic alliances with solution vendors for implementation. Towards this end, Infosys is currently looking at tying up with US-based JD Edwards for the implementation of its enterprise systems solutions.
