Our Markets Bureau

Mumbai, Dec 6: The National Stock Exchange (NSE) promoted 100-per cent subsidiary, NSE.IT, on Thursday launched e-learning portal finvarsityTM dedicated towards the financial sector and specially designed to address the needs of NSE’s Certification in Financial Market courses (NCFM). NSE.IT chief executive officer Satish Naralkar said: “The registration fees to avail the facility in various specialised areas will be charged at Rs 2,500 and for refreshers the registration fees will be Rs 1,500 and the duration for the registration would be for one month.”

“The basic concept behind this e-learning portal is to make the platform common for investors, corporates, traders, etc, in whichever part of the country they may reside. An entire spectrum of knowledge, which includes specialisation in equity, derivatives, mutual funds, insurance and banking,” Mr Naralkar added.

The portal will enable investors, traders, corporates, or dealers placed in any part of the country to avail the facility which would be in par with any one who is residing in Mumbai, or any metropolitan city.

The Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) has made it mandatory to have a certificate in financial markets from either NSE or BSE for a trader dealing in derivatives products.

NSE.IT said the key benefits of finvarsity are — any where, any time learning, learning at own pace, standard course contents prepared by expert faculty, focus on conceptual clarity, question bank and solve problems, interaction with experts in the field, facility to get answer for queries and practice tests.

Mr Naralkar said that bulk registration will be given discounts and initial bonanza for early registration would be made available. For example, first 50 registrations will be given a 20-per cent discount. NSE.IT expects, at least, 1,000 people to register by March 31, 2002.
On immediate basis, the finvarsity portal will offer two courses in the area of derivatives, viz, futures and options.

The first course — Derivatives Core Module — covers all the topics prescribed for the NCFM programme for derivatives, while the second course — Refresher Course on Derivatives Core Module — is for candidates who are due for certification as per NSE stipulations.

The candidates completing this refresher course would have certificate validity for an additional two years. NSE.IT and Intelsys have jointly developed finvarsity.
