Textiles mills look to domestic cotton as imports turn dear
  This is a case of sheer role-reversal. Till recently, imported cotton was most preferred by the cotton consuming mills here. However, with around 29 per cent jump in almost 30-year low cotton prices, the mills now find imported cotton uneconomical.
Edible oil index futures on cards
  Edible oils index futures, a new derivatives trading product, said to be taking shape in the world of index futures, may emerge soon on the horizon in India, if the law ministry is convinced of the product.

  The latest scientific researches have come as a shot-in-the-arm for the domestic sugar and salt industry. These industries can now become more financially viable, if they are able to produce potassic fertilisers. Domestic production of potassic fertilisers will go a long way to lessen our dependence on imports.
Tea industry pegs exports estimate for the year lower by 15 m kgs at 190 m kgs
  The cup of woes of the tea industry is filled to the brim with exports during 2001 poised to be substantially lower, following a host of adverse factors including major importers switching to high quality tea from other origins. This is on the back of a sliding prices and lower unit value realisation for Indian tea in the international market.
