Wanna plant a sapling? Try Sify.com

Our eFE Bureau in Chennai

Satyam Infoway Ltd (Sify) has launched a ‘Greenmail Campaign’ to encourage saving of paper and use of e-mail. As a part of this campaign, every time a browser uses Sify.com, he or she helps a tree grow. The company plans to plant and maintain atleast 7,500 saplings and more depending upon the number of clickthroughs on Sify.com. “This is in continuation of what we can do to delight our customers, apart from discharging our social obligation”, said Mr Vivek Bali, president - portals of Sify.

The planting would first begin in New Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai two weeks from now and the rest of the country after that, he said.
While WWF (World Wide Fund for nature) has endorsed this project, the forest department of Tamil Nadu has extended its support to the movement by providing saplings.

The programme is being communicated through mass media and across its 500 ‘i-ways’ and retail outlets where it’s sold using jute placards/posters.

While Delhi-based NGO Green Line and Aruna Farms in Chennai are assisting in the implementation of the project, CP Arts Foundation will audit it at the end.
