‘Amitabh
Bachchan model communicator for managers’

Kolkata, Oct 14: The corporate barons of India can
learn a lesson or two from ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati.’ No, it
is not the claim of the KBC host and star of the millenium
Amitabh Bachchan or the show’s sponsors. This has come from
the director of Institute of English Language and an expert
in communication skills, SS Ray, who advised corporate managers
to take a lesson of ideal communication from KBC.
The advice came at a gathering of the country’s stalwarts
in company secretaryship — a seminar organised by the Institute
of Company Secretaries of India here Saturday. According to
Mr Ray, the success in trade in today’s world depends mostly
on effective communication rather than just financial strength
or strong equity base. “Such communication skills are not
merely gifts of nature. Rather, one can easily master the
art of communication primarily through observation and later
through dedication,” he said. Again, Mr Ray said, communication
was not merely restricted to high-sounding verbal exchange
of thoughts. “Rather it should be an ideal mix of oration
and body language,” he said. He pointed out why KBC was still
the most popular game show, despite there being other programmes
which offer prize money much higher than that of KBC.
“The reason is simple. It is the excellent communication skills
of Mr Amitabh Bachchan, which is a perfect blending of intelligent
oration and updated body language that gives KBC an edge over
other game show programmes. I feel that if the corporate managers
can display even a fraction of what Mr Bachchan has displayed
in KBC, success is assured,” Mr Ray said.
According to him, the second group wherefrom people can take
a lesson of communication is the country’s politicians.
“However you may be annoyed with them, at points of connections
you listen to them (excepting a few) with avid concentration.
Mind it, it is not the fear but rather their excellent communication
skills that draw your attention,” Mr Ray said. He further
pointed out that not only trade but every aspect of life was
now dependent on proper communication.
