NBCC to develop Rs 120-cr commercial centre in Delhi

Rajeev Jayaswal

New Delhi, Oct 14: Public sector National Building Construction Corporation (NBCC) is investing Rs 120 crore to develop a shopping mall-cum-office complex in south Delhi.

“We have already acquired four acres of land in Saket to develop it as a commercial city centre with a shopping mall,” NBCC chairman-cum-managing director Arup Roy Choudhury told The Financial Express.

The project, which is being conceptualised, is likely to be launched next month, he said, adding that NBCC will be able to generate a profit of about Rs 50-60 crore from the project.

“The complex will be called NBCC Citi Centre and it will be managed by the corporation,” Mr Choudhury said. NBCC is already maintaining and managing over 10 million square feet of space in different parts of the country.

The company has identified Botswana as a prospective country. “We are floating a joint venture company, Jamal-NBCC International (Proprietary) Ltd’, for undertaking infrastructure, housing and other large-scale high-value projects,” he said.

NBCC, an ISO 9001 company, ranks at 179th position globally. The company has undertaken major projects in Libya, Iraq, Yamen, Maldives, Nepal, Mauritius and Turkey.

The corporation has recently undertaken a Rs 80-crore project to design, construct and commission two natural draught cooling towers in Andhra Pradesh, the largest in South-East Asia.

The project is executed by NBCC under technical collaboration with Balcke-Durr of Germany.

“The project is expected to be completed by the end of this year,” Mr Choudhury said.

NBCC is involved in the Delhi Metro Rail Corporations’ (DMRC) project. It is executing Gautampur railway station for DMRC, which will be completed as per the schedule, Mr Choudhry said.

The corporation was also awarded the DMRC project to construct Tis Hazari station.

The company later pulled out from the project due to some technical reasons.

The corporation has a total work-order of Rs 750 crore. It is expecting to post a profit of Rs 9 crore in the current fiscal. The company had shown a profit of Rs 2.5 crore last year on a turnover of over Rs 300 crore.

NBCC has over 3,200 personnel, 10 zonal offices and about 175 running units across the country and abroad.
