Centre notifies banking service as public utility for 6 more months

New Delhi, Sept 20: The Union government has declared services in the banking industry as a public utility service under the Industrial Disputes Act for another six months from September 19.

According to a labour ministry notification, bank employees will, among other things, be required to give notice to their employers six weeks in advance if proceeding on strike so that the conciliatory proceedings could be started .

The employees could not go on strike during the conciliatory proceedings.
