India flays Pak for offering conditional support to US

New Delhi, Sept 17: India lashed out against Pakistan for allegedly placing conditions before the US in return of their help in tracking down the prime suspect Osama bin Laden. It said that such conditions ‘‘trivialised’’ the global approach against terrorism.

‘‘We have already seen the reports. There is no confirmation of these reports. Such reports, in our point of view, trivialise the global approach to check terrorism as also the colossal dimension of the tragedy’’ in the wake of the terrorist strikes in New York and Washington, an external affairs ministry spokesperson told the mediapersons here on Monday.

She was asked about reports that Pakistan had told the US that it was against involving India and Israel in any military operation in Afghanistan to hunt down bin Laden.

Queried about the assistance India will provide to the US, she said ‘‘the full dimension of the current reaction and the response that is going to buildup is still in the process of being worked out. I don’t think any specific steps at this moment have been spelt out by the US.’’
