GM launches Corsa sports variant

Our Corporate Bureau

Mumbai, Sept 17: General Motors India (GMI), a subsidiary of General Motors USA has launched a sports special variant of the Opel Corsa, its upper-end offering in the mid-size passenger car segment. The company has pitted this version directly against the Ford Ikon Zxi, Hyundai Accent 1.5 GLS and the other cars in the segment.

The new version, called the Corsa 1.4 GLS Sport has been priced at Rs 6,86,632 (ex-showroom Mumbai). The Mumbai version is, however, priced considerably higher than the Delhi price of Rs 6,18,352.

Commenting on the pricing of the new variant, GMI president and managing director Aditya Vij said, “GMI has adopted a straddle pricing strategy to take on the competition through efficient benchmarking, to increase appeal for all its variants. We have also succeeded in bringing down the price of spare parts considerably because of localisation, while ensuring its availability in abundance at all places across the country.”

Mr Vij added that customer feedback had prompted the need for a younger, sportier version of the Corsa 1.4 GLS.

The new variant is competitively benchmarked on features and price with other top-end versions in the segment. The model is fitted with additional features, such as chrome-plated alloy wheels, decklid spoiler, full length body side graphics. GMI plans to follow the launch by a TV campaign for the Opel Corsa.
