New Delhi, Aug 28: RANBAXY Laboratories and Cipla have announced the marketing alliance to co-market Ranbaxy’s once-a-day formulation of Ciprofloxacin, which has recently received Drug Controller general of India’s (DCGI) approval for marketing in India.
Ciproloxacin-OD is a unique dosage form of the broad-spectrum anti-bacterial, is from Ranbaxy’s Novel Drug Delivery Systems (NDDS) research pipeline.

The domestic market for ciprofloxacin is estimated to be around Rs 310 crore.

Ranbaxy is also talking to other pharma companies including Zydus Cadila for signing a similar co-marketing deal for its other novel drug delivery system (NDDS) anti-infective products, ‘Zanocin’ OD (Ofloxacin) in India.

“Ranbaxy’s alliance with Cipla for ciprofloxacin-OD will be a win-win situation for both companies, enabling to leverage its combined
marketing prowess and extensive distribution network,” Ranbaxy Laboratories Ltd Pharmaceuticals president Brian W Tempest said.

“We are keen that the benefits of Ciprofloxacin OD in terms of convenience and better patient compliance should percolate to the maximum number of doctors & patients” Dr tempest added.

Cipla joint managing director Amar Lulla said, “The spirit of co-operation that was started a few years ago between Cipla & Ranbaxy has now been strengthened with the Ciprofloxacin-OD agreement.

Together, both our brands account for over 30 per cent of the Ciprofloxacin market in India and thus we will be in a better position
to convert the market towards the once-daily concept in this fragmented segment”.
