Lee
Cooper seeks to corner kids segment

INTERNATIONAL ready-to-wear brand Lee Cooper is all set to
launch children’s clothing, watches, stationery and other
accessories in India. This extension is part of the brand
and market expansion plan that has been chalked out by Indus
Clothing, which manufactures Lee Cooper in India.

a view to making a fashion statement aimed at the younger
generation

Besides expanding its product range, Indus
Clothing is also looking at franchise stores for Lee Cooper
products. This will be in addition to the current shop-in-shop
system that is used by the company to market its products.
The company is currently scouting for possible tie-ups to
manufacture watches and stationery in the country.
Speaking to The Financial Express, Indus Clothing director,
Mr Narinder Singh, said: “We want to make Lee Cooper a lifestyle
statement, not just a ready-to-wear brand. We want to be present
across a section of segments along the lines of the brand
strategy pursued globally by Lee Cooper.”
The company has scheduled the launch of Lee Cooper children’s
range for the summer/spring collection of 2002, while it plans
to introduce its range of watches and stationery by 2001-end.
The company is plans to approach the stationery segment with
a view to making a fashion statement aimed at the younger
generation. Besides, the company is also working on its expanding
its existing range of men’s and women’s lines of clothing.
Encouraged by the recent growth trend in denim, the company
is expecting its denim market to grow by at least 30-40 per
cent. It will be launching a complete range of fashion denims
in the winter 2001 collection in terms of style, product,
washes and treatments.
Mr Singh said: “We will expand our denim range this season.
The worldwide upswing in denim after a four-year recession
is also catching up in India. Lee Cooper is a premium international
fashion denim brand and we will be bringing in a range of
international new designs into the country.”
The company will also be introducing new product lines in
the already existing men’s and women’s range. Based on international
designs, it will introduce new fabrics like polyester, cotton
nylon, cotton blends like modal, lycra and tencil.
In the women’s wear segment, the company will introduce shorts,
skirts, capripants and designer tops in woven and knits.
