Number
of foreign tourists likely to remain stagnate
THE number of international tourists visiting India is likely to remain
more or less the same with the average room rates (ARRs) achieved by the
four and five star hotels in Mumbai and Delhi outperforming the Asian
average of ARRs during 2000. ARRs, during 2000, were high despite the
erosion of the rupee against the US dollar.
Property transactions dull
in April
THE real estate transactions in Mumbai have been lacklustre in
April 2001, with residential deals accounting for a majority of the transactions
for the month.
Prasad to be non-executive
chairman of BG India
BRITISH Gas India (BG India) on Tuesday announced the appointment of former
Gas Authority of India Ltd (Gail) chairman and managing director CR Prasad
as non-executive chairman of the group’s India operation.
Yamaha to
launch new 4-stroker

to launch another 4-stroke bike in August and introducing slew of low-end

Microsoft,
Handspring sign deal
Microsoft Corp, in another effort to promote its growing MSN Internet
service, has struck a deal with hand-held device maker Handspring Inc.
to carry MSN on Handspring’s mobile Web browser. A wireless service called
MSN Mobile will be the default provider of information on Blazer, the
newest version of Handspring’s browser, both companies said.
Qwiky Coffee
expects Rs 90-cr sales by 2003, to open 55 pubs
COFFEE outlet pioneers in India, Qwiky Corporation, is expecting a turnover
of Rs 90 crore by opening 55 coffee pubs, 35 “store in stores” and 100
kiosks all over the country by 2003 and will soon go in for equity placements.

of recovery: CMIE
THE Center for Monitoring the Indian Economy (CMIE), in its review of
the performance of the manufacturing sector during 1993-94 to 1999-2000
says, after three years of slowdown, growth rates of companies have improved
in 1999-2000.
Vietnam
Airlines plans to lease two airliners
NATIONAL flag carrier Vietnam Airlines is seeking to dry lease one more
Airbus and a Boeing later this year to meet growing passenger demand,
an airline official said on Tuesday. Director of Corporate Affairs Phan
Duy Quang said the airline had called for leasing offers with terms of
36 months.
