DOEACC plans to go online, to implement ISO 9000

Ashu Kumar in New Delhi

AS a first step to offer its services on Internet, Department of Electronics Accreditation of Computer Courses (DOEACC) is planning to make its operations online. This would mean that the initiative, when implemented, will facilitate online student registration, online examination and even online accreditation for computer courses.

As part of the plan, DOEACC is also implementing ISO 9000 in its internal operations to streamline its processes. The department will also encourage all public and private institutions offering DOEACC courses to implement such quality standards.

When contacted by The Financial Express, the executive director of DOEACC, Dr P N Gupta confirmed that the department is planning to offer online services and exploring its options from technology and economic point of view.

“The online plans are on a very initial stage. We are just exploring the possibility and discussing with experts to find out how can the department offer basic facilities like registration etc online. However, the vision includes providing examination and accreditation facilities also online in future,” said Mr Gupta.

DOEACC also plans to offer its basic computer awareness programme called Certificate Course on Computer Concept on Internet. “This can considered to be a pilot project in online initiative,” said Mr Gupta. The course is aimed at spreading computer literacy in masses. The course content includes basic computer concepts, word processing, spreadsheets and Internet fundamentals.

“Before taking up the online initiative in a big way, we would like to streamline our processes to bring more efficiency and transparency in the system. Moreover, we want to build efficient connectivity between different departments and wings in terms of processes,” said Mr Gupta adding that the aim is to provide better services to the students and institutions in terms of prompt response to their queries and minimising the complaints.
The department also plans to take the quality initiative to all the public and private institutions associated with it and offering DOEACC accredited courses. This would bring more transparency in their processes and minimise the chances of exploitations of students, he added.

DOEACC is an autonomous body under the Ministry of Information Technology which offer different level of computer education classified as O, A, B and C levels.

DOEACC offers registration and examination services to individual students as well as to students undertaking its accredited computer courses offered by institutions across the country.

DOEACC currently has around 2.5 lakh students registered in different level of courses.

The department has, so far, accredited around 700 institutions which are offering O, A, B or C level of courses across the nation. The O, A and B level courses are recognised by the Indian Government while A level is recognised by US and Japan also for employment in their country.
