Kolkata, March 18: India's largest car-maker Maruti Udyog Ltd on Sunday said it would concentrate on the CNG compatible models in future to enable its customers use the cheap and less polluting fuel in their vehicles. The company, which had over 60 per cent market share, would focus on CNG variants and roll out new models compatible with the fuel, Maruti director (marketing) J Sugimori told reporters here.Stating that the company was "ready" with four new models" for the Indian roads, he said these would be launched "when the market is ready to absorb them".
He, however, refused to divulge details about the new models, but said these would be below the 1000 CC category. Asked if there was any plan to phase out some of the existing models, he said, the company may plan to do so in view of the new models hitting the roads in regular interval.
However, there was no plan to phase out its entry model `Maruti 800', which contributed to over 60 per cent of its total sales, he said. Maruti had reported a sales of 31,504 units in February and a cumulative sales of 3.06 lakh vehicles.
