Govt plans to neutralise IT Act

New Delhi, March 18: The Cyber Regulatory Advisory Committee on Sunday decided to make regulations governing the Information Technology (IT) Act 2000 technology neutral while making subscribers' interests paramount.

The committee, comprising representatives from the industry, government and police, finalised the regulations governing the rules of the IT Act, official sources said.

The meeting agreed that the regulations should be technologically neutral and that subscribers' interest was paramount, sources said, adding it also discussed measures to establish high standards for certifying authorities.

The IT Act has been passed by Parliament in June 2000, but it came into force only on October 17, 2000. The committee was set up to draw rules for regulating the sector.
