RPG group top official retires

Subhadip Sircar
Mumbai, March 14: RPG group president and chief executive officer (CEO) (chemical, engineering and speciality business division), Mr Sharad Kulkarni, has decided to call it a day with effect from April 1, 2001. Mr Kulkarni, who also heads the corporate quality council (CQC) of the group has been associated with the group for 18 years. Speaking to The Financial Express, Mr Kulkarni said," Despite my retirement, I will continue to be associated in some advisory capacity with the RPG group." The group is in the process of finalising the successor to Mr Kulkarni. Mr Kulkarni, however, added that he was still undecided whether to take up any new assignment with another organisation. The chemical, engineering and speciality business division of the group comprises group companies Raychem, Cetex, Spentex and CQC. RPG president (group HR and management development) Mr Arvind Agarwal will be taking over as the chairman of CQC.

Commenting on his association with the group, Mr Kulkarni said," The most satisfying part of the association has been the creation of the CQC, which has helped create the road-map to quality for the RPG group companies."

Mr Kulkarni played a pivotal role in setting up joint ventures with Sulzer of Switzerland, Hoerbiger of Austria and Beninzer. The group later successfully divested from these ventures, as part of their initiative to focus on core businesses.
