Garment-makers in Kerala to shut down units today

Kochi, March 14: Aggrieved with the imposition of 16 per cent excise duty on ready-made garments, garment manufacturers all over Kerala will shut down thier units on Thursday.PK Rajeevan, president, Garment Manufacturers' Association, told newsmen here that they will urge the Union government to revamp the textile policy which should see withdrawing the cancellation of the SSI approval to units with a turnover of Rs 1 crore. He said adding to the woes of the garment industry was the cheap import of goods from China and Taiwan.
