Assocham to help set up cyber cafes in Mauritius

New Delhi: The National Computer Board of Mauritius (NCB) will enter into an alliance with the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry (Assocham) to provide technical support to develop cyber cafes in Mauritius. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to this effect is to be signed between the two parties. The two parties arrived at this decision at a meeting organised by Assocham with the visiting Mauritius IT and Telecommunications minister, Mr Deelchand Jeeha and his 16-member delegation. Mr Jeeha invited Indian entrepreneurs to set up joint ventures in the cyber city that is being set up in Mauritius with the help of the $100 million line of credit extended by India. Mr Jeeha said, the Mauritian Prime Minister on his return from India had set up three task forces on e-education, e-governance and cybercity with technical guidance of India. He said, "as a result, Infosys Technologies, Pentasoft, DSQ, Mafatlal have already decided to make huge investments. The tie-ups have been made to meet the localrequirements and for export to African countries." Mr Dhanendra Kumar, Additional Secretary, Department of Telecommunications said, "India was keen on setting up a delegation of IT and telecommunication professionals from the public and private sector to concretise areas of cooperation between the two countries. Outlining the potential areas where there was scope for cooperation between the two countries Mr Kumar said, C-DOT would be keen to establish joint ventures with Mauratius companies, ITI could help set up repair centres for switching, VSNL would be keen to set up gateways , e-mail and videoconferencing facilities. There was also vast scope for establishing R&D centres and cooperation in training of personnel. Assocham president, Raghu Mody said an important area for Indo-Mauratian cooperation was the development of communication kiosks, which will have a significant role to play in networking and promoting e-governance within Mauritius.
