Mumbai, March 12 : Dunlop India Ltd (DIL) has filed a writ petition against the Board for Industrial and Financial Reconstruction (BIFR) in the Calcutta High Court on Monday. The company also filed a writ against the operating agency Industrial Development Bank of India (IDBI).The company has contended that DIL promoter Mr MR Chhabria had pumped in Rs 32 crore including letters of credit worth Rs 6 crore in the last one year, with the hope that BIFR would soon approve the draft rehabilitation scheme for the revival of its ailing factories at Shahganj in West Bengal and Ambattur in Tamil Nadu.
But, nothing had materialised even after having waited for more than a year, according to the company.
"We are extremely pained by the attitude of the BIFR which has kept a silence and has been waiting for a nod on the scheme by the UBI and SBI. It is a sorry state of affairs that the banks who should have taken a positive attitude, have taken a tough stand against the company and in turn, against thousands of its workers," said a company spokesperson.
DIL chairman MR Chhabria is infusing fresh funds to the tune of Rs 15 crore with which the promoters contribution would increase to Rs 47 crore. But in spite of this commitment from the promoters to keep the company's holding operations going, IDBI, the operating agency appointed by the BIFR had also decided to keep silent, added the spokesperson.
With the infusion of funds by the promoters last year, DIL had already completed one year of its holding operations at both its factories, the release added.
"We have now sought the help of the judiciary to prevail upon the BIFR and IDBI to quickly sanction the draft rehabilitation scheme in the interest of the workers and the company as further delay would damage the organisation and thousands of its workers beyond repairs," added the company spokesperson.
