Dell eyes 10% marketshare for PCs in India

New Delhi : Dell Computer India, a wholly-owned subsidiary of DELL, wishes to acquire a 10 per cent market share of the computer systems market in India by the end of 2001. The company currently claims to have around 5 per cent market share in India. The company, which has focussed only on enterprise segment, is also planning to enter into the home and small office PC segment. "We are on a very advance stage of our plans to launch home and small office market but I can provide any other details right now," said Mr KS Viswanathan, a newly appointed managing director of DELL India. Mr Viswanathan claimed that Dell had only 1.9 per cent share of computer systems market before launching its Indian operations in September 2000. After that the Dell market share has grown to 3.6 per cent in third quarter (October, November, December 2000) and further to 5 per cent in fourth quarter, he added. Dell, sells its computer systems through direct channels to the customer worldwide.
