Mauritian government woos Indian IT industry

Hyderabad : With a view to convert Mauritius as `Cyber Island', Mauritius Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunications Mr Deelchand Jeeha has proposed a three-way joint approach with Indian software industry. Speaking to press persons here on Sunday, Mr Jeeha said that his government has set up three task-forces-cyber cities, e-education and e-government. He invited technology-based universities including IIIT-Hyderabad to set up training centers in Mauritius. According to Mr Jeeha, Mauritius government has already invested $ 14 billion to lay 20 giga bit to 80 giga bit optic fiber covering whole of his country besides laying submarine cable connectivity between west and south including India. He urged the Indian entrepreneurs to utilize the Mauritius base to market products and services to the Western and African countries.After tourism the Mauritius government has embarked on the Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) sector as the major growth engine to its economy. Further the government is extending tax concessions and other incentives to foreign companies who plan to set up shops there, he explained. Mr Jeeha said that Mauritius government has proposed to have joint venture with AP government in the areas of e-governance.
