London, Feb 27: Stock market index firm FTSEannounced new indices on Tuesday to set a global standard for "sociallyresponsible" companies and encourage firms to clean up their acts.The FTSE4Good index series will provide tradable and benchmark indices forthe rapidly growing area of socially responsible investment (Sri) And takeinto account social, environmental and ethical issues.
The indices will cover companies in Britain, developed Europe as a whole,the United States and the developed world, FTSE said.
The companies making it into the UK and European benchmarks are to beannounced in May and the indices launched the next month. The US and globalindices are expected to start by the end of the year.
