A pinch of logic works best

RAVI CHADHA
You may choose to make Feng Shui adjustments for a variety of reasons, however, there are three basic approaches. In the first, you choose to make Feng Shui adjustments even though you are experiencing no particular difficulty as of now. For example, you notice that the study table of your child is not placed as per the ideal Feng Shui requirements. However, you still make the adjustments; these are preventive and you are also enhancing the potential of your child in studies.

In the next approach, you have been experiencing certain difficulties, and therefore choose to put in specific remedies. For example, you have noticed of late your teenage child is developing an attitude, becoming irritable and short tempered. You thereby are intervening to remedy this situation with Feng Shui.

The third approach is a combination of both-providing an overall balance by addressing prevention and intervention methods simultaneously. This becomes a very effective approach in situations where you are actually experiencing the difficulty, and personally know about the situation in life you wish to address. Before you start the actual assessment of your home plan by using the Bagua, it is advisable that you go through the following process. Relax in a comfortable chair and reflect on issues that are a cause of concern right now. They may be old issues or current new issues. Take a notebook, make a complete list, do not analyze, do not judge, be honest, authentic and realistic about the situation. If there are several issues, narrow them down to two or at most three, in order of priority or the ones that need your immediate attention.

Sample list may look as follows: I should get a promotion and a handsome increment in my salary this year end. I would like my daughter to be happily married within the next six months. I need to control my temper and reduce stress.

Feng Shui lays a great emphasis on intentions-both your personal and those behind the cures and remedies. Intention is a very powerful use of the conscious mind.Intentions are thoughts that activate the cures which remedy the problems.

If we are asking for things that will better our lives, then the request is a sincere intention. Feng Shui was given to us to improve the overall quality of our life, this is one of the main objectives governing its belief system. Do not hesitate or be modest when asking for yourself, only be sure of what you are asking for, the more specific you are the better the chances of your achieving your objectives.

The cures: There are nine basic categories of cures, remedies and enhancements which are used to adjust the flow of Chi in your home or workplace. However, these offer two types of solutions-the mundane and the transcendental.

The mundane solutions are more acceptable, reasonable and offer a logical explanation, they incorporate commonsense, good advice and sound judgment as ways to accomplish your task. They come from a realm of knowledge we are familiar with. The transcendental solutions are more mystical by nature and come from a universal realm of knowledge that may not easily be understood or accepted by the average person.

For instance, let us look at the wish list given above. The mundane solutions to get the daughter married would be: place a matrimonial ad in the papers, ask friends and relatives to be on the look out, the daughter should socialise more, enhancing the chances to meet Mr Right. The transcendental solution may suggest placing a wind chime in her room or perhaps shifting the bed to another position.

The mundane solution for promotion at work would be to join short-term courses to upgrade skills, improve communication, step up the public relations campaign at office, or invite your boss home for dinner. The transcendental cure would be to place a heavy metal statue in your home.

It would be wise to apply the mundane cures and then in addition use the transcendental. It has been found that very often the transcendental cures need a tangible situation through which they manifest. For example, in the case of the daughter's marriage, the wind chime may lift the energy block that is preventing her from developing a relationship with a person, however, the mundane solution of socialising may provide her the opportunity of meeting some one. As in the case of the promotion, the transcendental cure of placing the metal statue will activate and enhance the energy of a benefactor in the office supporting your promotion, in addition the mundane cure of joining additional course supports the justification for a steep increment you expect.

The nine basic categories of cures and how they affect the flow of Chi are given below:

  • Lights, bright objects, crystal ball. These items lift up and expand the Chi.
  • Mirrors draw, reflect, deflect or expand Chi.
  • Sound chimes, music, etc, activates and keeps Chi moving.
  • Life force-plants, pets, fish, birds, etc-nurture and stimulate the Chi.
  • Heavy objects-statues, sculptures, etc-diffuse Chi fast or anchor Chi.
  • Colours-objects, interiors, cloths, etc-enhance or soften Chi.
  • Movements of mobiles, flags, fountains, etc, disperse and circulate Chi.
  • Power equipment like ACs, computers, etc, convey strength and power.
  • Symbolic objects, images fragrance, etc, enhance the effectiveness of basic cures.

The beauty of Feng Shui cures is the flexibility they offer. Besides, the range of items listed above is only illustrative and can be expanded. Just use a little imagination and creativity.
