MERC orders govt, MSEB to file compensation affidavits

Mumbai, Feb 27: The state government and MSEB move on Tuesday tounilaterally offer sops received a major jolt when the MaharashtraElectricity Regulatory Commission (MERC) directed them to file affidavits byMarch 7, over compensation of Rs 800 crore towards subsidies to agriculturaland powerloom consumers.The commission has arranged a technical session on March 12 for the samepurpose, MERC said in a statement on Tuesday. "MERC considers it necessarythat payment of compensation of Rs 800 crore with respect to thegovernment's subsidies should be effected well before MSEB files its nexttariff or at least before the finalisation of accounts for 2000-01 ," itsaid.
