New Delhi, Feb 27: To recover its huge outstanding dues from the variousstate electricity boards (SEBs), National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC)is likely to take over inefficient thermal plants from such states to turnthem into profitable entities. While inaugurating the international conference cum exhibition on power,Power-Gen India and Central Asia 2001, in New Delhi on Tuesday, powerminister Suresh Prabhu said the government is in the process of finalisingan attractive package for turning around some of SEBs, who owe a huge mountof money to NTPC.
Mr Prabhu said the package will allow the corporation to takeover thefunctioning of the sick thermal units and hand them back to the stategovernments after improving their fiscal health.
"This would ensure an increase in the plant load factor (PLF) of these sickplants, besides helping NTPC recover its dues," the minister said.
