Handicrafts sector wants nine-year tax holiday

New Delhi, Feb 27 : Government should extend a nine year tax holiday to thehandicrafts sector to enable it to compete with China and other Asiancountries, Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts chairman Ravi K Passisaid on Tuesday."The government has given taxation benefits to the export oriented units(EOU) which not only import raw material but also sell between 15-20 percent of their output locally. We want to be treated at par with them and begiven tax holiday for nine years," he said on the sidelines on theHandicrafts and Gifts Fair here. The handicraft units are scattered all overthe country but they export 100 per cent of their products in addition tohaving minimal imports, he said.
