Mumbai, Feb 20 : Import of edible oils have jumped to 1,233,431 tn during the three months period to January 2001 against 972,132 tonne for the same quarter of the last year. This is higher by 27 per cent compared to the same period last year.On the other hand, the import of non-edible oils during January 2001 is 34,492. The total import of non-edible oil for November 2000 to January 2001 is 107,048 tn against 48,870 tn during the same period of last year which is up by 119 per cent.
According to The Solvent Extractors' Association (SEA) of India the import of edible oil during January' 2001 is reported at 538,358 tn against 378,832 tn last year.
In January 2001, RBD Palmolien import is reported at 175,383 tn against 260,891 tn in January'2000 while the import of crude palm oil (CPO) is at 154,371 tonnes (14,745 tn). Also, the current ratio between refined and raw oils is 40:60 compared to 74:26 for the last year.
Although the ratio of palm oil and soft oil has remained same compared to last year, the import of RBD Palmolein has gone down from 698,000 tns to 492,000 tns but compensated by increased in import of crude palm oil (CPO) from 21,000 tns to 416,000 tn in first quarter of the year.
