Pakistan says it has nothing to lose by signing CTBT

Islamabad, Jan 28: Pakistan said that it has nothing to lose by signing the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty (CTBT) as it has no clause to prevent the country from carrying out further nuclear tests to safeguard its integrity, a senior official said. "There is no loss to Pakistan in signing the CTBT as in the treaty there is a clause which allows us conducting of further tests, if such a dire need arises," Pakistan's Inter Services Public Relations Director Maj Gen Rashid Qureshi was quoted as saying on Saturday.

He also said that signing the CTBT was not all that critically important to Pakistan compared to other issues like reshaping the economy, improving law and order and bringing in political reforms.
