CBI interrogates GP Hinduja, to summon all three brothers today

New Delhi, Jan 28: As the CBI prepares to submit its progress report on interrogation of the Hinduja brothers in connection with the Bofors case before a designated court, the bureau on Sunday grilled London-based GP Hinduja and again summoned the Hinduja group chairman SP Hinduja to the agency headquarters for the second time.

CBI spokesman SM Khan told reporters that as of now the interrogation of GP Hinduja has been completed but all the three brothers have been called for further clarification on certain aspects tomorrow. London-based billionaire Srichand Hinduja and his brother GP Hinduja arrived at the CBI headquarters and were questioned by the Special Investigating Group separately for over two hours. Srichand Hinduja had already been questioned for over 13 hours in a span of four days beginning Saturday last and again summoned for three hours on January 25.

Mr Khan said the investigating officers only needed some clarifications from Srichand Hinduja and no further interrogation was done.

GP Hinduja spent two hours with CBI investigators, whose questioning focussed on the payment the Hindujas have admitted to have received from the Bofors Company.

A designated court, which extended their interrogation till January 30, will hear the applications of three Hinduja brothers for leaving the country after a detailed progress report of their interrogation was submitted by the agency on Tuesday.

Mr Khan said the agency would chalk out its future course option only after tomorrow's questioning of three Hinduja brothers.

He said the three brothers might be initially examined separately but there were chances of joint questioning. Agency sources also said the Brothers, whose questioning focussed on money allegedly received from AB Bofors immediately after a deal between the Swiss gun manufacturer and the Indian Government was signed, might be confronted with some documents.

In a statement yesterday GP Hinduja had said, "We have come here voluntarily to submit to the judicial process and to prove our innocence of any wrong doing. We have full faith in the Indian judicial process and we have co-operated with the CBI and answered all their questions and whatever they need. We are not hiding behind our constitutional right of silence or behind foreign passport."
