Local jute goods market unchanged; prices steady
Our Commodities Bureau
Kolkata, Jan 28: The local jute goods market remained almost unchan-ged. Prices of all constructions continued to hover around their previous levels as mills and other sellers refused to discount prices in spite of fresh business taking place during the week. The prices of sackings continued to remain relatively high due to sustained demand from government agencies and sugar mills. In addition, the government is expected to place a fresh order for aproximately 1.5 lakh bales of 665gm B Twill bags for delivery within February, 2001. However, the order was not placed during the week and the movement of prices recorded no change. The continuity of the business as well despatches was affected during the week as there were a number of holidays. It is unlikely that sacking prices will reduce from its present high levels since the government purchases are continuing. Copyright © 2001 Indian Express Newspapers (Bombay) Ltd.
