New Delhi, Nov 13: Exports of readymade garments have posted 5.76 per cent increase to $3078.8 million (Rs 13,829.98 crore) during the first seven months of the current fiscal compared to the same period of the previous year.The growth was 5.33 per cent in terms of quantity to 778.1 million pieces in April-October 2000-01, according to the figures given by Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC). Inspite of the growth in exports in the first seven months of the current fiscal, the target of $6500 million could be achieved only to the extent of 47.29 per cent only.
Exports to the US during April-October 2000, amounted to 160.5 million pieces valued at $1102.3 million (Rs 4,958.19 crore) representing an increase of 8.59 per cent in terms of quantity and 27.37 per cent in terms of value. Exports of readymade garments to the European Union rose 11.14 per cent in terms of quantity to 333.2 million pieces and 6.38 per cent in terms of value to $934.2 million. 4,206.71 crore) in April-October 2000.
