Third international film festival from Nov 23 in Mumbai

Mumbai Academy of Moving Image (MAMI) has announced the third International Film Festival-Mumbai from November 23 to November 30. This was announced by Mr Govind Swarup, managing trustee, MAMI, at a press conference in Mumbai.

The other academy members at the press conference included Amit Khanna, Kiran Shantaram and Manmohan Shetty.

MAMI is handling the festival in collaboration with the National Centre of Performing Arts, YB Chavan Pratishthan, Prabhat Chitra Mandal and promoted by the government of Maharashtra. Overall, 27 countries will participate in the festival. The festival starts with "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon", a film by Ang Lee. It will offer 12 hours of viewing every day. There is also a forum titled "Chauraha" where one can interact with film personalities.

This year, there will be three more sections - Asian Panorama, Focus on Director and Focus on one country. The festival always highlights Mumbai Film Industry's Contribution to Indian Cinema. This year the theme will be "Women's Voice." The films to showcase this include "Aurat", "Mrityudand", "Arth", "Rudali" and "Damini." The country in focus will be Japan this year.

There will be five films from Japan.The festival will also confer the Lifetime Achievement Award on veteran producer GP Sippy on the silver jubilee of his movie "Sholay." Besides, actress Jaya Bachchan will receive an award for her contribution to cinema.

On the technical front, cinematographer, KK Mahajan will receive the award for technical excellence.
