A Ganesha in silver

HUMA SIDDIQUI
Ganesha is the most widely used motif in the Frazer and Haws Diwali collection this year. The little elephant-headed god dances atop a set of diya made of silver and polished teak. His profile adorns a sleek silver Gajapati thali. And you can find his image on silver key chains and paper clips too.

Ganesh and Lakshmi coins are considered traditional good luck tokens at Diwali time. The Vighneshwar piece consists of a majestic silver Ganesh against a background of textured blue glass on which a silver cumulus cloud floats.

Another Diwali piece is the Panch Diya, which has five silver diyas strung together on a wooden handle.

This season, the accent is on crystal and silver at Frazer and Haws, a prominent jewellery retail store in Delhi. The Rockies candlestand has silver encircling crystal rocks to culminate in a silver candleholder. A scribble pad with Princess cut crystal complements the gracefully modelled silver piece.

Time Crystallised presents a crystal chronograph tilted at an angle with the crystal's facets providing a kaleidoscopic display. Inspired by a sunset on a lake, the Sunset Lamp has crystal floating on a silver lake with concealed lighting at the back. Stone joins crystal and silver in another more angular lamp, called Lotus on Ice. The flowing silver lotus motif is hand-pierced and placed on the main piece. Pierced silver also adorns the simple and elegant wooden tray. The Renaissance Book End too contains a delicately ornate screen of pierced silver offset by the black leather on which it is placed. The unusually modern Sapphire Watch consists of a clock set in silver. The well-finished, easy to clean Log Vase is ideal for long-stemmed flower arrangements. The softer curves of the hand-blown Morano Noodle Vase are encircled by flowing silver curves. A completely different piece is the silver arrow of Success Ahead, pointing hopefully in the right direction.
