Mumbai: Procter & Gamble Hygiene and Health Care (P&G) has relaunched Vicks Action 500+ in an attractive True Blue pack. The change from green to blue packaging brings Vicks Action 500+ in line with the new global packaging colours used for the Vicks range of products worldwide.In addition to the change in colour from green to blue, the packaging has also changed from `blister' to `glassine poly'. According to a company press release, the distinct blue colour and the brand name appearing throughout the new glassine poly pack enables consumers to easily identify and buy the product.
The true blue packaging has been already extended to the entire Vicks range ie. Vicks Inhaler, Vicks Cough Drops, Vicks Vaporub jars of 25 gm and 50 gm and Vaporub tins of 10 gm.
Vicks Action 500+ is an OTC (over-the-counter) cold tablet which is also said to provide relief from multiple symptoms of cold like headache, blocked nose, running nose, body ache, sore throat and fever due to cold.The brand was first launched in the early 1980s as one of the first OTC cold tablets that contained the prescribed dosage of paracetamol (500 gm) in one tablet, thus giving higher efficacy that other brands.
Vicks Action 500+ is available at a price of Rs 6 for a strip of four tablets. Other competing brands in the market are D'Cold and Coldarin.P&G has been increasingly focussing on its core areas of feminine hygiene care and health care. The brands under these categories - Whisper and Vicks - are thus being given the required marketing support. Vicks is the market leader and to protect its leadership position from the emerging competition, P&G recently unleashed a new advertising campaign to support the relaunch.
In addition to the Vicks range of products, P&G has in its portfolio leading brands such as Tampax, Old Spice and Clearasil.
