Jute technology mission on the cards -- Minister

New Delhi: The minister for textiles, Kanshiram Rana on Friday said that Government will soon launch a Jute Technology Mission to increase productivity in the jute sector and assist it to grow and consolidate itself in new and diversified areas. "The proposal for the technology mission will soon be finalised in consultation with the ministry of agriculture, Indian Council of Agricultural Research, department of biotechnology, concerned state Governments and research and development agencies," Rana said at the meeting of the Consultative Committee of Parliament for the ministry of textiles here.He said the Centre was committed to the betterment of the jute farmers and added that the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for TD-5 grain of jute grown in Assam had been fixed at Rs 785 per quintal for the current jute year, against Rs 750 per quintal last year.
