Chautala to meet Bill Gates in September

Chandigarh: Microsoft chief, Bill Gates has invited Haryana Chief Minister, Om Parkash Chautala to explore possibilities of the company joining hands with the state government to give shape to an information technology revolution in the state. The invitation from Bill Gates was extended to Haryana Chief Minister, Om Parkash Chautala by president of Microsoft India, Rajiv Nair. Nair met the chief minister when the latter inaugurated a seminar organised at Haryana Nivas here. The luncheon meeting between Bill Gates and Om Parkash Chautala is slated for the month of September and it will be held in Delhi. The meeting will be organised by NASCOM.

Reciprocating the gesture, Chautala confirmed his acceptance and said that he would finalise the the dates, and would be happy to meet Bill Gates next month in Delhi. The Microsoft India president informed that Microsoft would set up a Competency Centre in the state and the company has also prepared an IT road-map for the state. Rajiv Nair also called on the state Chief Minister here to discuss various issues relating to information technology.

The IT road-map was displayed at the seminar here on the `Information Technology Initiatives for Haryana'. Giving details of the Competency Centre, Microsoft India president Nair informed that the Competency Centre would display IT models, particularly relating to e-governance and would function like a laboratory where all models would be displayed. Various applications prepared by Microsoft and NIC would also be available at the centre to educate and inform the particular usage for further replication to it users and others involved in the usage of these facilities.

The morning session of the seminar was chaired by Chief Secretary, RS Verma and the afternoon session by Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister, Vishnu Bhagwan. The Commissioner and secretary, Information Technology, Haryana PK Chaudhary stressed the need for strategic alliance of Microsoft India with Harton, a state government undertaking. Chaudhary informed that Haryana planned to bring in on-line computerisation of treasuries along-with the State Bank of India in collaboration with Microsoft India.

Microsoft India will prepare a vision scope document for bringing on-line computerisation of treasuries. A pilot project connecting the treasuries at Gurgaon, Ambala and Chandigarh would be made operational in collaboration with the State Bank of India within 100 days after receiving clearance from the Accountant General, Haryana, it was learnt.

This will enable the government to access the recording of revenue accured from various resources from state treasuries for better utilisation of funds.
