The `Best of Kerala Package-2000', on offer from the Taj group, aims at offering every bit of Kerala to its clients. For six nights and seven days, the package includes stays at the Taj Malabar, the gateway to the backwaters (one night), the Taj Garden Retreat at Thekkady (two nights), the Taj Garden Retreat at Kumarakom, nestled amidst the beautiful backwaters (two nights), and the Taj Residency at Ernakulam (one night).

The package rates are Rs 24,325 for a couple and Rs 18,550 for single occupancy. A child aged 12 plus or adult, sharing the room, will be charged Rs 6,000. The package is valid till September 30, and includes room charges, taxes and meals (on buffet/special menu card). As a special feature, the Taj will provide complimentary, shared, air-conditioned transportation from the point of entry to exit. One child below 12 years will be allowed in this package totally free, inclusive of extra bed and meals. It is also free for children below five years of age. Coffee/tea will be provided complimentary at any time during the day at the restaurant and all sightseeing will be held as per schedule. Time off for leisure activities will also be provided.The entire itinerary has been pre-worked, says a Taj spokesperson, and care has been taken of the smallest detail to ensure that the trip is comfortable and pleasurable.

The trip offers sunset at Kochi, a plantation tour at Thekaddy, a backwater cruise at Kumarakom, a Kathakali recital by professional dancers, trekking trips, and bird and wildlife watching tours, among other exciting programmes. There are extension tours to the Taj Garden Retreat, Varkala, and Taj Residency, Kozhikode. The Taj group will also pick up the cost of transportation by train from Ernakulam to Varkala and Kozhikode.

Two-night packages are available at the hotels in Varkala and Kozhikode. The rate at Taj Garden Retreat, Varkala, is Rs 7,100 for a couple and includes a welcome drink, breakfast/lunch or dinner, pick-up from Varkala station and a host of extras. At the Taj Residency, Kozhikode, the rate for a couple is Rs 5,000 and includes a welcome drink on arrival, half a day's sightseeing, a 20 per cent discount on Ayurvedic massage and all meals. In addition, the Taj Kerala offers to arrange a day trip to Munnar from Thekkady or from Ernakulam at a nominal extra charge.
