TCS aims at Rs 2,800 crore turnover in current fiscal

Mumbai: Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), a division of Tata Sons Ltd, is expecting to rake in a turnover of Rs 2,800 crore during the current fiscal. About 25 per cent of the revenue is expected to come from the burgeoning e-commerce and Internet projects. During the last fiscal, income from the Internet/e-commerce business activities grew to 16 per cent from 9 per cent of the total revenue. Tata Consultancy Services is also expected to continue its investments in the research and development (R&D) activities. "We have been spending about six per cent of our total revenue on the R&D front," TCS chief executive officer S Ramadorai told reporters. The company, which employs 14,000 professionals, has a research centre in Hyderabad.The R&D centre has a manpower of 400 employees currently. TCS is also in talks with several foreign universities to conduct research on IT projects. When asked about the company's initial public offering (IPO) to raise funds, Ramadorai declined to comment. "We do not want to divulge details on the proposed maiden public offerings. It will happen," Ramadorai said here on Tuesday. Meanwhile, TCS has launched its Computer Security Consultancy Practice that will design, develop and implement customised end-to-end computer security solutions. The product comprises consultancy, research and development and product development. "It will detect security lapses occurring in applications, operating systems, network design and the Internet. TCS will target banks and financial institutions, financial services, insurance, government, stock exchanges and other companies with large networks, with the software.
