Amtex plans Rs 150cr IT expansion

Chandigarh: Pursuing a major expansion programme, Amtex Group has chalked out major forays into infotech sector involving an outlay of about Rs 150 crore. Under the expansion plans for IT sector, the company proposes to set up various key businesses such as software consultancy, portal development, software development, software education and training, 3-D animation and e-governance solutions. To achieve the desired results effectively, the company is currently negotiating tie-ups and joint ventures with various national and international players. According to Atul Bhargava, vice-president, ISP and Portals, Excel Infotech Limited, the company has already obtained category `A' Internet service provider license.

This sets the stage for the company to launch national level service under the brand name Swiftxs.com. Aiming at offering a wide range of user-friendly access options to the consumers, the service would soon be available in six major cities by September, 2000. These Net access options include dial-up/leased/ISND/Web TV/Cable TV, mobile phone and wireless Internet access. Of the total outlay, about Rs 40 crore have been allocated for ISP service. Bhargava told that the company's ISP infrastructure is being built with a long term objective of providing commerce services from the very beginning and Net telephony in near future.

It has drawn up comprehensive plans to emerge as a premier ASP(application service provider) offering customised applications to SMEs(small and medium enterprises) on pay-as-per-use basis. He said that Excel would also launch a horizontal portal with unique community building features simultaneously with its ISP service with an investment of Rs 50 crore. The company is currently busy working the contents of this portal. It would also be launching two vertical portals, one for B2B and other for B2C e-commerce.

Also on the anvil is development of a state-of-the- art "Excel Infocity" in Gurgaon. The world class set up involves an investment of Rs 40 crore. This centre would cater to the entire needs of ISP, software development, software education and training and technology education and training . The company has also decided to enter into strategic alliances with the foreign companies. It has already signed an MOU with a world renowned international IT consulting organisation and is in the process ofsigning MoUs with two more US based companies for Net telephony and establishment of TEC. The company has already signed MoU with Broadcast Engineering Consultants India Limited(BECIL-a government of India enterprise) for developing software relating to television and broadcasting media. The company according to Bhargava is confident that with its tie-ups with BECIL, it can develop branded software's which are the requirements of the day. The scope of developing the software relating to both terrestrial and satellite broadcasting is unlimited. Bhargava claimed that with its comprehensive programmes and goals, Excel Infotech hopes to emerge as the best rated information technology company committed to set world standards through innovate and professional services.
