US panel voices doubts on missile shield
A classified report by a Pentagon-appointed panel has raised serious questions about plans for a U.S. missile defense shield, including doubts about whether interceptors could distinguish between missiles and decoys, The Washington Post reported on Sunday. The panel headed by Larry Welch, a retired four-star general and former U.S. Air Force chief of staff, cites many of the same difficulties raised by critics of plans for the missile defense system, the Post said.

The Welch report cites problems with the booster rocket for interceptor missiles, doubts about whether the system could tell real missiles from decoys, and concern that the timetable for constructing a working system in five years is unrealistic, the newspaper reported.

Yahoo sues Yoohoo in Thailand
Yahoo, one of the Internet's most popular search directories, has filed a lawsuit in Thailand against a Thai-owned site, Yoohoo, claiming the site duplicates its name, a newspaper reported on Sunday. The US-based Yahoo is not seeking compensation but wants the site removed, The Nation report said. The newspaper said the chairman of the Thai Webmasters Association, Col Yanaphon Youngyuen, was contacted on Saturday by the Yoohoo webmaster, Chatchai Thumprasreat, to ask for advice on the case. A lawyer representing Yahoo had filed a lawsuit against Chatchai in April, saying the name sounded too much like that of the US directory and could lead to confusion. Chatchai was quoted as saying Yoohoo was unlike the US site, calling it a "virtual magazine for men" but without explicit sexual material. Lord Paul made member of LDA

Lord Swraj Paul, prominent NRI industrialist and co-chairman of the Indo-British round table, has been appointed a member of the all-powerful London Development Agency (LDA). Appointing Lord Paul, London Mayor Ken Livingstone said in a statement: "It is my strong intention that the LDA should be a hands on executive body for London's economic development and regeneration." Lord Paul, chairman of the 500-million pound Caparo Group, is also the roving British business ambassador and chancellor of the Wolverhampton University.

LDA chairman George Barlow said "London is a world class city with a world class economy. It is the prime task of the new London Development Agency to keep it that way, and importantly, to ensure that all Londoners can participate in and benefit from it."
