Delhi: Come December and Channel V's VJs may start speaking in Tamil, Bangla or Punjabi or one of the other regional languages. Plans are afoot to catch youth eyeball in the lucrative language market by putting programme blocks in regional channels. Talks in this regard are on with several such channels to air Channel V's programmes, industry sources said.As part of localisation effort, the channel also plans to produce original programes in various regional languages, to be presented by local VJs. The channel does not plan to go for dubbing of programmes in various languages as that takes away from the "local touch", sources added. Speaking to eFE, Channel V India general manager Suresh Bala confirmed that talks with in this regard were on with several regional channels. He said there may be some on-ground events to complement the on-air activities. On Channel V's re-positioning in the market, Bala said the Channel has positioned itself as an aggregator of youth eyeballs across various media - on air, ground and online. He said Channel V is all set to leverage the benefits of convergence of technologies which will have a significant impact on its revenue flow. "Over the next two years we expect 40 per cent of our revenues to come from non-advertisng source," he said. These will include licensing fee, content reselling, subscription, music and events.
As of date, over 90 per cent of the channel revenue is advertising-related. Non-advertising revenue is expected to grow to 20 per cent in the next one year, he added. A series of events which will link on-ground events with on-line activities are in the offing.
In this regard, a co-branding exercise is in the offing. A series of tie-ups to push its merchandising activities are in the pipleine. Bala said special attention will be paid to organising youth-related events and shows through out the country. The channel has lined up at least 200 such events over the next one year, he added.
The recent stake in an online music portal easybuymusic.com is a pointer to the Channel's online plans.
