HP first to offer server at PCprice-point
New Delhi: Hewlett-Packard has introduced the HP NetServer E 200 system, becoming the first vendor to announce a business server at the price of a desktop PC. Priced at Rs 78,000, the new server gives small-medium businesses and workgroups a dedicated business server. According to IDC, the entry level market for servers is expected to be 15,000 units in the current year, approximately half the size of the total server market, says a company press release on Friday.The HP NetServer E200 allows small and medium-sized businesses purchase only the features they need and are ready for, such as file/print capabilities and Internet applications. Additionally, the E 200 offers room to grow to Pentium III 667 MHz processor with 133MHz FSB, 64 MB SDRAM expandable to 768 MB Total, 4 available drive bays for up to 72 GB Mass Storage, 4 PCI slots."Today's decision will enable us to focus on enhancing our market-leadership position in servers", said Rotnoraj Dutta, market development manager, servers and notebooks at Hewlett-Packard India. Hewlett-Packard India announced also its decision to manufacture its range of servers, starting with the HP NetServer E200 at its Bangalore facility.
