Chennai, Jan 31: S&S Power Switchgear Ltd has sold its low tension switchgear business and gained Rs 25.3 crore in the process. The deal which went through on January 20 saw the low tension miniature circuit board business going to Schneider India while the fuse business was sold to Cooper Busman of the UK. As part of the company's restructuring efforts, it is now planning to stick to high tension business which it has identified as its core competency.A state-of-the-art factory for manufacturing HT disconnectors was set up in Pondicherry in 1997 for Rs 10 crore and the company since then acquired a synergistic business in high tension control and protection products in the UK.
While S&S cut down its fixed costs through a major BPR programme, its UK subsidiary called Acrastyle Ltd in the UK has also started generating orders for Indian operations. Gross sales for the third quarter this fiscal was Rs 17.36 crore lesser by 10.7 per cent lower compared to Rs 19.45 crore for the previous corresponding quarter. However net profit was Rs 1.49 crore (Rs 4.03 crore). Gross profit before interest, depreciation and taxation stood at Rs 2.35 crore.
