Mumbai, Oct 27: Britannia Industries Ltd has posted a 24 per cent rise in net profit to Rs 12.7 crore during the second quarter ended September 30, 1999, as against Rs 10.2 crore in the corresponding period last year.Buoyed by a satisfactory growth in its core business of bakery and consolidation of the dairy business, net sales increased by 15 per cent during the period to Rs 305.4 crore from Rs 265.5 crore last year.
According to a company press release, sales of its bakery products have increased by 14 per cent over the corresponding priod last year. While biscuits volumes have grown by 18 per cent, cake volumes have reported an increase of 5 per cent. The dairy business has shown a 28 per cent spurt in sales.
The Britannia scrip on the BSE, which closed at Rs 871 on Tuesday, closed at a lower level of Rs 870 on Wednesday. A total volume of 10,000 shares were traded on Wednsday against 17,500 shares on Tuesday.
Net profit margins at 4.15 per cent were higher as compared to 3.84 per cent last year.
