Mumbai, Oct 19: Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray on Tuesday warned the Congress(I)-led coalition government of dire consequences if it decides to implement the recommendations of the Srikrishna Commission report on the communal riots of 1992 and 1993.Thackeray's warning came at the Shiv Sena's Dassera rally, following the Congress (I) led government's announcement that it will take necessary action after seeking the status report from the department concerned.
The report which had indicted the Sena supremo, former chief minister Manohar Joshi and several Sena leaders, was rejected outright by the previous Shiv Sena-BJP alliance government on the grounds that it was too biased and partial. The Congress(I), Nationalist Congress Party, Janata Dal (Secular), and the Samajwadi Party have already promised in their election manifestoes to revive the Srikrishna report and take stern action against those indicted.
"We are not scared about our arrests but we will not tolerate injustice meted out against us," he said, adding that the Shiv Sainiks who are the real fire will not sit quiet, but express their feelings if they (read Thackeray and other leaders) would be thrown behind bars.
Thackeray asked the Congress(I) led coalition government headed by the chief minister Vilasrao Deshmukh not to be vindictive and assured the partymen that the saffron flag would be once again hoisted atop the Mantralaya.
Thackeray strongly justified his decision not to compromise either with the Congress(I) or the NCP to form the government in the state in the wake of short of majority. "I have made a sacrifice to avoid another elections in the state. Our alliance with the BJP continues, as I will never think of assuming power by backstabbing," Thackeray opined.
