Chennai, Oct 21: Tamil Nadu Newsprint and Papers Ltd (TNPL) has reported a net profit of Rs 12.06 crore (Rs 10.05 crore) for the half-year ended September 30, 1999, registering increase of 20 per cent over the corresponding period of the previous year.The net sales of the company increased by 11.75 per cent during the first half to Rs 233.98 crore (Rs 209.36 crore). Total expenditure of the company for the half-year has been Rs 179.96 crore. Interest and depreciation charges have been provided for Rs 24.17 crore and Rs 31.26 crore respectively.
TNPL had exported 6966 metric tonnes of wood-free printing and writing paper till September 30, 1999 compared with the total exports of 5608 mt during the last financial year 1998-99. With good export orders at hand, the company is confident of touching a target of 15,000 mt before the end of the current fiscal, said a company statement released on Thursday. The export list of the firm has been widened to include countries such as Australia, the Philippines, Syria, Nigeria and Myanmar during the current year.
