BJP to press for more seats in Tamil Nadu, identifying candidates for AP

AGENCIES
Kancheepuram, July 19: BJP vice-president Jana Krishnamurthy on Monday said the party would press for 15 Lok Sabha seats, 10 more than they had contested in the last elections in alliance with the AIADMK, in Tamil Nadu.Talking to newspersons here, he, however, said this could be scaled down during the talks the three-member BJP panel would hold with DMK president and chief minister M Karunanidhi.

The other parties in the DMK-led Front were Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) of Ramadoss, Marumalarchi DMK (MDMK) of Vaiko and the Tamila Rajiv Congress (TRC) of petroleum minister Vazhapadi K Ramamurthy.

He said the list of party candidates for the coming Lok Sabha elections would be released during the BJP national executive committee meeting at New Delhi in August.

Meanwhile in Andhra, in a move to mount pressure on the ruling Telugu Desam Party for spelling out its stand on poll alliance, the Andhra Pradesh unit of BJP started the process of identifying potential candidates for all the 42 Lok sabha and 294Assembly seats in the state.

``We have set up six teams to identify candidates before July 30 and the list will be submitted to the national election committee of BJP meeting at Delhi on August 2 and 3,'' state party president Ch Vidyasagar Rao told reporters.
